About the Firm
The Legacy Planners P.C. is a busy office of three, growing steadily, and focused on providing practical, thoughtful, and client-centered legal services in estate planning, probate administration, and business matters. The firm serves individuals, families, fiduciaries, and closely held business owners with an emphasis on clear communication, careful planning, and responsive client service.
We take pride in how personal we run our business. Empathy is a must here — we expect the ability to sit and listen to clients as though they were your own family, taking the time to truly understand what matters to them. As the firm continues to grow, it seeks an Associate Attorney who is interested in building a long-term practice in a supportive, collaborative environment. The firm’s work is guided by its Personal Family Lawyer® philosophy, using a heart-centered, family-focused approach to help clients make thoughtful decisions with clarity and confidence. We pride ourselves on taking the time to understand clients’ relationships and values, not just their assets.
Why This Role Exists
Our practice is booming, and we are currently bringing in more clients than we can comfortably manage. We need a capable, motivated attorney to help us serve those clients well without sacrificing the personal attention that sets our firm apart. This is a long-term opportunity for someone looking to transition into a leadership role.
Position Overview
The Associate Attorney will report to our managing attorney, working directly with clients to design and implement estate plans tailored to each client’s family, financial, and tax circumstances. The role will include preparing detailed estate planning documents, advising clients on probate avoidance and fiduciary appointments, assisting with estate and trust administration matters as needed, Medicaid applications, and other elder law matters.
This position is well suited for an attorney just starting out or one who wants to switch to an estate planning practice, who enjoys meaningful client interaction, careful drafting, and helping families make informed decisions about the transfer and protection of assets. We will provide training on our processes, CRM, and drafting software.
Key Responsibilities
- Meet with clients to identify estate planning goals, family considerations, asset structures, and planning needs;
- Design, draft, review, and revise estate planning documents;
- Advise clients regarding probate avoidance, fiduciary selection, beneficiary designations, incapacity planning, and related estate planning considerations;
- Assist with estate administration and probate matters, including preparation of Massachusetts Probate and Family Court filings, fiduciary guidance, and asset collection and distribution;
- Assist with Medicaid applications and appeals when needed;
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, team members, financial advisors, accountants, court personnel, and other professionals;
- Maintain organized client files, accurate time records, and appropriate matter documentation;
- Support the continued development of firm systems, client service processes, and workflows; and
- Participate in business development, professional networking, and community outreach, as appropriate.
Key Areas of Ownership
The Associate Attorney will take ownership across four core areas:
- Practice Management — Managing an active caseload of estate planning and elder law matters from intake through completion, with sound judgment and minimal oversight over time.
- Client Experience — Delivering the firm’s heart-centered, family-focused approach at every touchpoint, ensuring clients feel heard, informed, and confident in their planning decisions.
- Legal Production — Consistently drafting high-quality documents and closing matters efficiently, contributing directly to the firm’s growth.
- Team Leadership — Working collaboratively with the firm’s paralegal and managing attorney as part of a coordinated team and growing into a leadership role within that team over time.
Success Metrics
- Expectation of closing 6 estate planning matters per month.
- Production above this baseline is rewarded through a percentage-based bonus structure.
Training & Onboarding Schedule
- First 30 Days: Complete onboarding and systems training; observe and learn the firm’s processes; begin handling assigned drafting matters.
- First 60 Days: Begin independently managing a caseload; conducting client consultations with limited oversight.
- First 90 Days: Fully own assigned matters; meet production and client service expectations.
At 6 months, success looks like closing 6+ estate plans monthly and the ability to work both independently and as a team member.
Growth Track
This role is designed as a path to partnership, with the possibility of firm ownership after approximately 10 years, as our lead attorney transitions toward retirement. We are looking to invest in someone who wants to grow into that future alongside us.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in Massachusetts and good standing with the Massachusetts bar.
- Previous legal experience is not required, but a strong desire to learn estate planning, elder law, and probate administration is a must.
- Strong legal drafting, analytical, and client communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters independently while meeting deadlines.
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning new legal practice management and document drafting software.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be personable, detail-oriented, and interested in growing with a small firm. The attorney should be comfortable working directly with clients, explaining legal concepts in plain language, and taking ownership of matters from initial consultation
through document execution or administration.
